10th January last, relative to the staff of the Supreme Court of this Colony.

2.

In my despatch No.176 of the 1st November last, I enclosed a Comparative Statement showing the staff of the Court, 1o as it existed before the Commission; 2o as it has existed in its provisional state since the Commission, and 3o as it would stand in accordance with the instructions of Sir Michael Hicks Beach in his despatch No.141 of the 30th October, 1879.

3.

That Comparative Statement showed that the cost of these three schemes was $38,616; $38,952; and $39,480 respectively.

4.

The provisional appointment of two Deputy Registrars and an Accountant, in place of the former Deputy Registrar, has hitherto been attended with no additional expense, as the Deputy Registrar's salary, $2,160, was divided among three Officers in the following proportions, namely, to Mr. Sangster $480; to Mr. Mossop $600, and to Mr. Barff $1,080. The increase of $336 on this scheme was caused by an addition of $144 a year to the Shroff, and by the payment of $192 to the Registrar of Companies. The latter sum is no longer paid, as the duties of Registrar of Companies were included among those of the Registrar of the Supreme Court, whose total salary for all his duties was fixed by law.
